At the request of Andrejs Veckalns, the deputy of 1st Saeima, the clock is built at the entrance to the Old Town in order to keep workers on time for work. It has been known as “Veckalna pulkstenis” nationwide.

The name of the chocolate manufacturer Teodors Rigerts, who opened the first chocolate factory in Latvia, appears on the sides of the clock. Teodors Rigerts' factory became one of the the biggest sweets producers in the Baltics and Russia. Rigerts' clock is now being called “The Great Clock” by the residents.

1935

The clock is moved a few meters away from the side of the street arriving to its new location and remains there to this day.
